Case Study: Measuring, Analyzing & Tuning the Performance of ADF Applications with Richard Olrichs
In this session, a customer case will be discussed and demonstrated about how you can monitor the performance and resource related behaviour of an ADF application by instrumentation. Instrumenting the application gives visibility of and insight in what is happening inside the application. What ADF, SOA, Java and database transactions are executed, when and how often? What is the health of your system? What is the type/severity of errors? Are there memory or network blockages? What is the end-user experience? This end-to-end visibility and insight is very effective in identifying and resolving performance and health problems quickly. Several customer scenarios will be discussed. Learn how you can make instrumentation an integral part of your ADF development process.
Lessons learned on development and architecture decisions will also be shared!

Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS) is at your doorstep – will you let it in? with Anton Els
Natural disasters are not something that should be taken lightly when talking about Disaster Recovery (DR), the impact on the business can be catastrophic. But there are many research studies showing that one of the reasons many companies experience interruptions or even data loss are caused by human error. The combination of hardware, software, and people operation is prone to failures and require contingencies in order to maintain the continuity of businesses.
There are options to protect your business against disaster, whether it is human, hardware or a natural disaster. Your company can invest in all of the components to establish a protected environment in-house – most of the time at a high level of customization and engineering requirements not to even mention the cost. Why not adopt a solution of DRaaS (Disaster Recovery as a Service) where all of the components of the solution have been already engineered together?
In this session we will review DRaaS; what is it? Things that should be considered as well as highlighting areas such as lower total cost of ownership, higher level of customer satisfaction and faster go to market - you can literally start protecting your business tomorrow.

Blue Skies with Clouds - BI moves away from home with Peter Scott
Cloud is around us and BI developers need an understanding of how it impacts them and the way that they design and connect to systems. Drawing on my experiences from working with pure cloud, and both forms of hybrid (cloud database, on premises BI tools and local database with cloud reporting) I look at some of the challenges before a more detailed look at setting up an Oracle Cloud solution that uses Cloud databases and Oracle BICS.

Internals of 12cR2 Multi-Tenant Database with Vit Spinka
How does Oracle separate data for the CDB and PDBs in the redo logs? How is the Oracle dictionary split across the CDB and the PDBs? As many of us are already familiar with multitenant in 12.1, we especially look for the differences that 12.2 brings.

What The ETL is Going On with Peter Scott
Why is my ETL slow? This light-hearted presentation looks at some the misguided techniques developers have chosen to fulfil the functional requirements of their ETL processes but forgetting the need for the ETL to run quickly and efficiently. Looking at various examples I have seen in both hand-coded SQL and integration tools such as Oracle Data Integrator I look at the problems of doing too much work in a process. Sometimes through writing our own code to do something the platform does natively, other times through just moving too much data around. The presentation will look at: - using the in-built functionality of the platform and not writing your own; - doing things at the right time and place; - choosing techniques appropriate for the platform; - why correct data types are important; - the dangers of doing too much work. At the end of the talk developers should smile at the misfortune of others, but also have a renewed knowledge of appropriate techniques in ETL
